Best of Lists for Sedona Vegan Food and Wine

Sedona Bell Rock

Sedona has been one of our favorite getaway destinations for more than a decade, no matter if we are up for hiking, chilling, spiritual recharging, wine tasting or romantic dinners under the starry sky. We love to surround ourselves with the awe-inspiring red rock formations, canyons and vortexes that time has shaped. And to top it off, some of the residents have become dear friends.

No matter if you’re seeking the beautiful natural wilderness, enjoy wildlife spotting during hikes and after dark, or experience some of the most amazing sunsets in the West – all of these experiences will leave their magical impressions on your heart.

At a minimum try to spend 3 – 4 days in the area, so you can get a bit of everything: great nature hikes, some spiritual discovery, a visit to a winery, shopping & relaxation, and a good taste of the excellent local vegan food offerings!

There have been many changes in the Sedona food scene over the last 10 years and we are happy that plant-based food offerings are now plentiful in the area - and some even later at night.

No matter if you’re looking for vibrant living foods, decadent chocolates or comfort food - Sedona has it all!

In the pages below I will share with you my personal “Best of” lists for food and wine experiences around Sedona to make your visit as delicious as possible!

Discover the best of vegan comfort foods, living foods & superfoods, chocolates, cheeses, foods paired with great views, quick bites, best wine experiences, and night life with vegan food.

Great Drives To Sedona

If you’re driving from Las Vegas the trip takes about 4.5 hours and takes you past the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead through the backlands of the Grand Canyon into the Coconino Forest area.

Just after Flagstaff off I-17, you can drive on State Route 89A towards Sedona through the forest with higher elevations and switchback roads that offer stunning views . Lush foliage gives way to canyons and red rocks as you approach West Sedona, and from there you can continue towards Uptown Sedona and Cottonwood, or turn left on Route 179 towards the Village of Oak Creek to catch a scenic drive that includes views of the iconic Cathedral Rock and Bell Rock.

Another way to reach Sedona from Las Vegas is a road less traveled that we tried for the first time recently. Taking this route you approach the area via Jerome, the famous Arizona ghost town below Mingus Mountain. This route takes you from Ash Fork through Chino Valley into 90 minutes of switchback roads and hairpin turns through the most stunning mountain drive until you reach Jerome, from where you can overlook the entire valley.

If you like to see some beautiful scenery from as high as 7800 ft elevation, this will be a great drive. From here it’s just another 30 minutes to reach Sedona.

My Tips For Visiting Sedona

  • Sedona, the Village of Oak Creek and Cottonwood in Arizona are recognized dark sky communities, which means they actively work on reducing light pollution after dark to protect the natural surroundings and the integrity of the ecosystem that comes along with it. You are in for fabulous star gazing in the night sky here!
  • Restaurants in the area cater to early diners and you will see many eateries close at 8 or 9 pm, especially on weekdays. It’s a good idea to check the current opening hours of your dining place so you can plan accordingly.
  • If you have a balcony or patio at your accommodation, bring some paperware and candles, so you can dine under the stars while enjoying a take-away from a great restaurant nearby. This is also a good choice if you like to dine at a time when your chosen restaurant may be closing soon. Most of the hotels and inns will have in-room fridges to store some food.
  • Make sure to bring a good bug spray during monsoon season from June to September. While Sedona is in the high desert, the more frequent rains during that time bring out the bugs in droves – day and night!
  • Javelinas and coyotes come out after dark! If you love watching wildlife, you may be able to observe them from your balcony or porch – just make sure to keep your smaller pets close by and on the leash.
